ICORM day2

The conference runs as usual today. The were 2 plenaries lectures. The first one was about "Rural Medicine --The Way Forward" by Prof Allan Carmichael, from Australia. He discussed about the future of rural medicine in his country. The second plenary lecture was from Dr Azman Abu Bakar. He discussed about "Research Priorities in Rural Medicine. It was boring and i fall asleep midway of his lecture.
We had a short coffee break after that. Then it was followed with symposium lectures, under the theme of "Agricultural and Wilderness Medicine."
The first lecture was from Prof Gopalakrishnan, from National University of Singapore. He presented very important topic about "Envenomations in rural and wilderness area". His lecture was interesting as he explained what are types of snake, fish, spider, bees and hornets that are harmful to human. He did showed very nice picture about dangerous snakes like Malayan pit vyper, king Cobra and the venomous sea snake.
The second lecture was from Prof Chua, a virologist from National Laboratory Institute. He discussed about "New Emerging Viruses". It was interesting..and i just know that Malaysia also had "produced" a new viruses like Nipah virus, Kampar virus etc.
The third lecture was from Prof Perusamal. His presentation was about "Medicinal plants in rural Medicine". He introduced the various plants in Borneo that have medicinal and commercial values. One of them is "Cananga Obturota" also known as pokok kenanga. Now it is widely used in perfume industries.
The symposium ended after the last speaker, Dr Rashidi presented a topic of "Acute Pesticide Poisoning among Agriculture workers." The most commonest pesticide poisoning were malathion and paraquat. Most of the patients developed acute poisoning because of attempted suicide.
During lunch time was fun. We were taken into a "Padang Kawat Palapes". Here there was a demonstration from "Unit Polis Udara". They demonstrated by using a helicopter, how the manage to evacuate a patients.
It was fun as this is my first time i'm seeing a helicopter at this closed.

In the afternoon there were lectures but i skipped them. Instead of attending lectures, i went into the cafe and "socializing"...making new friends.
I was surprised as they had failed to guess my real age. Most of them said my age was 25!!! and they didn't believe after i said that my age is reaching 30's..

Then, i met Ms Wong, a research scientist from University Darul Iman (UDM). We chatted and after that, with her friend, we took a tour around UMS campus. I think the UMS campus is the most beautiful campus in the country.
